Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan born on October 11th, 1942 in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh State in India is a legendary Bollywood actor and is considered an icon of Indian cinema. He is one of the greatest multi-faceted personalities. He is a singer, producer, powerful television presenter and an effective advertisement persona who endorsed several products.


As an actor Amitabh Bachchan won numerous awards including three National Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards and several honors and accolades. In fact winning awards has become a habit with him.
Amitabh Bachchan born as Amitabh Srivastav to Dr.Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a well-known Hindi poet and mother's Teji Bachchan. He has a brother named Ajitabh Bachchan. 'Bachchan' being his father's pen name gradually became the surname of the entire family.

After completing his double post graduation his graduation, Amitabh Bachchan worked for a brief while in a shipping firm Bird and Company at Calcutta and quit it soon to become an actor.

Amitabh Bachchan married his co-star from "Zanjeer" on June 3rd, 1973 and they together have a daughter Shweta and son Abhishek Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan made his filmy debut with "Saat Hindustani" in 1969 and won his first National Film Award for Best Newcomer. Since then there was no turning back for this awesome intense actor Amitabh Bachchan who delivered biggest box office hits year after year during the 70s and 80s.

Amitabh Bachchan’s success story began with "Zanjeer" in 1973 and continued with "Deewar", "Sholay", "Muqaddar Ka Sikander", "Don", "Majboor", "Lawaaris" and several other films that made Amitabh Bachchan the unrivalled king of Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan attained the immortal status in Indian cinema.

In 1982 while shooting for "Coolie" Amitabh Bachchan injured himself while enacting a fight scene with Puneet Issar, the villain and in the process ruptured his intestines and fell critically ill. Millions and millions of people daily thronged temples, churches and mosques to pray for their beloved hero's life. Amitabh Bachchan was himself surprised at the overwhelming outpour of love in the nation.

Amitabh Bachchan was elected to Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament and was a member from 1984 to 1987. He resigned his Lok Sabha seat to prove that he is not guilty of 'Bofors' scandal in which he was implicated.

Amitabh Bachchan has also started his own production company called Amitabh Bachchan Corporation, Ltd. {ABCL} in 1996. ABCL soon went bankrupt and Amitabh Bachchan found himself in neck deep debts. Later a television show "Kaun Banega Crorepati" pulled him out this rut. Amitabh Bachchan hosted "Kaun Banega Crorepati" on Star Plus channel for five years from 2000 to November of 2005 and reportedly charged Rs.25 lakhs per week.

With "Kaun Banega Crorepati", Amitabh Bachchan found his magical touch and began his second innings in Bollywood. And to this day as of 2007 December, his charisma, his popularity, and his magical spell on millions and billions of fans is intact. At sixty-five Amitabh Bachchan is still the demigod and immortal actor in Indian cinema.
